In the News: Patrick J. O'Keefe Provides Input to U.S. News & World Report

1/20/2012

Patrick J. O’Keefe, J.H Cohn’s director of economic research, recently contributed to an article in U.S. News & World Report about how, in the week that ended on January 14, jobless claims dropped to the lowest level in more than three years.

The number of people exhausting their unemployment benefits “has been dropping for the better part of the year, and that’s encouraging because some of that decline in the number of exhaustees is likely because long-term unemployed are starting to find work,” said Pat.

The article also noted that manufacturing is one area that still remains vulnerable in the slow recovery. “Manufacturing has been one of the areas where we have seen sustained growth during the jobs recovery,” said Pat. “And if we were to see it slow down, it would certainly take some of the momentum out of the recovery.”
